6/9/2009 Why Designers and Venture Capitalists Should Start Working Together Now- Fast Company
I just returned from the Israel Conference in LA, a gathering of venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and business people closely tied to the Israel-California innovation connection. The elegant event attracted over 500 participants and was casual enough to offer excellent mingling and inspiring talks. It also handed me a golden opportunity to talk to venture capitalists and gage their current mood after the bust--and then surreptitiously suggest design as a growth engine. Surprisingly, I had an audience.

6/8/2009 LA conference discovers a hot bed of Israeli innovation - Israel21c Last week, over 400 people attended the Israel Conference at the Luxe Hotel in Los Angeles. Under the banner "Incredible Technology, Amazing Companies," the event brought together some of the biggest and brightest stars in the Israeli and Southern California technology, investment, and venture capital world.

With panels covering everything from clean tech and high tech to med tech and social media, the event also boasted technology rock stars like Yossi Vardi and Bob Rosenschein.

The turnout was impressive given the current state of the economy. Yet despite the recession there was still plenty of interest and a true desire to try and invest in the next big thing.

6/3/2009 Funding Israeli startups during the economic crisis: The Israel Conference- Israel Innovation 2.0
Despite the economic downturn, Israel’s startup scene is as strong and vibrant as ever. Just as the innovation hasn’t stopped, neither has the need for outside funding to develop these exciting technologies. Several conferences and forums have been organized in the past few weeks to maximize the access of Israeli startups to the funding they need. One that hasn’t happened yet, but will on June 4th in LA, is the The Israel Conference.

Considered the first of its kind, The Israel Conference will have more than $20 billion in capital represented when it brings together over 50 Israel-facing companies to showcase Israeli excellence in technology and products and to expand business and investment opportunities between Israel and California.

5/27/2009 Israel, U.S. Connect on Venture Capital- Jewish Journal
A couple of years ago, Israeli television came up with a new show called “Mesudarim,” which was quickly labeled the Israeli version of HBO’s "Entourage." [...]

The next step in growing Israel’s stake in the world’s economy is to link Israeli inventiveness and quick development turnaround to the marketing/communicating skills and investment muscle of American managers and investors.

To encourage this linkup, some 50 American and Israeli top executives and venture capitalists with experience in the Israeli market will speak at The Israel Conference on June 4 in Los Angeles and explore opportunities for other California companies to follow in their footsteps.

5/21/2009 Israeli Companies Seek Global Profile- The New York Times
ISRAEL has long been successful in combining government and private money to promote small-business innovation. Now, it wants to build larger companies to compete better in a global economy.

Some of the country’s business leaders will take that message to the Israel Conference on June 4 in Los Angeles. "We have to enhance the Israel brand by creating big, long-term companies," said Eran Wagner, president of North American operations for cVidya Networks, an Israeli company that helps telecommunications companies improve their efficiency. "And not be seen as just a bunch of people with great ideas."
